On October 15, 2025, the Institute of Geoeconomics (IOG) at the International House of Japan co-hosted a roundtable with the Privacy by Design Lab, titled “Asia Data Privacy Day: Economic Security in the AI Era and the Future of Cross-Border Data Transfers.”

The first panel, under the theme “Reconsidering Data through the Lens of Economic Security,” engaged in wide-ranging discussions on data, AI, and cybersecurity from diplomatic and economic security perspectives.

The second panel, focusing on “Cross-Border Data Transfers and Privacy Challenges,” examined the newly launched Global CBPR system as well as governance issues surrounding personal data and privacy across borders.

Going forward, IOG will continue to strengthen networks with experts in Japan and abroad, foster communities that bridge government, business, and academia, and disseminate insights that support corporate decision-making.
