We have recently confirmed that suspicious emails have been sent by individuals impersonating researchers at the Institute of Geoeconomics.
We have confirmed that suspicious emails claiming to be from a researcher at the Institute of Geoeconomics (IOG) have been sent. The email invites the recipient to exchange views or speak at a symposium and directs them to a URL of unknown origin.

*This is a fraudulent domain in which the second “i” in “initiative” is missing.
*Previously, some staff members and researchers used the apinitiative.org domain, which was the domain of the Asia Pacific Initiative. However, as we transitioned to the ihj.global domain in March 2026, the apinitiative.org domain is no longer in use.
Neither the International House of Japan nor the Institute of Geoeconomics has any involvement whatsoever in the sending of such emails. If you receive a similar email, please exercise extreme caution regarding its content, refrain from accessing any URLs listed in the email or download any attachments, and delete the email immediately.
If you have been affected in any way by these emails, are experiencing trouble of any kind, or have concerns that they may be linked to fraudulent activity, please consult the police, the Innovation Platform Agency, Japan (IPA) or other relevant authorities.
