Profile
Kasumi Yamazaki has served as the inaugural Secretary General and Senior Executive Vice President of the Institute of Geoeconomics (IOG) since January 2023, leading the implementation of key initiatives. Her primary focus has been on strengthening the institute’s operational foundation through fundraising and the recruitment of diverse talent, while advancing strategic partnerships with international think tanks, government institutions, and other stakeholders.
After graduating from the Faculty of Social Sciences at Hitotsubashi University, she joined the Japan Bank for International Cooperation (JBIC). Over the course of her career there, she worked in various departments including lending to the Middle East, credit management, IT, and completed a study abroad program in Cairo. She spent over a decade as Deputy Director in core corporate functions such as legal affairs, corporate research, and finance. Through her work on international lending and corporate trend analysis, she addressed complex challenges in cross-border transactions and engaged in negotiations with foreign governments, multinational corporations, and experts in international law and finance.
Currently, she is committed to developing the Institute of Geoeconomics into a global think tank and a strategic hub in the Asia-Pacific region. She leads efforts to promote collaboration among government, business, and academia, while also driving international outreach, public engagement, and the organization of high-level conferences.
